We’re a finalist for the OBAA Sustainability award

OBAA_logoThe Ontario Business Achievement Awards (OBAA) are coming up and Confederation is a finalist in the Sustainability category.  We are being recognized for how our product and practices as a company are environmentally responsible.

“By making sustainable practices an integral part of their operating model, 1867 Confederation Log & Timber Frame demonstrates that environmental stewardship and business success can and should go hand-in-hand,” says Allan O’Dette, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. “With the majority of their suppliers being located in Ontario, this manufacturing and design company truly deserves to be showcased at this year’s OBAAs.”

Some of the reasons we were nominated and now selected as a finalist include:

  • our material:  sustainable northern Ontario white pine logs and timbers.  Air dried for 1-2 years which leaves zero carbon footprint.
  • our production:  we have zero waste in our production facility.  All cut offs are either sold to marinas for boat block or campers for firewood.  Our sawdust is even collected and given to a local farmer for animal bedding.
  • our product:  logs are a natural building material.
  • energy efficient:  logs are a natural insulator, our 6″ log is R20, 8″ R24…much more energy efficient than a conventional style home.
